The cost-effective way to replace teeth in Watford

What are dentures?

Dentures are the most cost-effective way to replace missing teeth. Technology has advanced in recent years, meaning that dentures are far more comfortable and personalised.

Dentures are made up of a metal or acrylic plate that sits in your mouth and contains one or more false teeth. You remove the plate to clean the prosthetic teeth after eating and overnight which allows your gums to rest.

Unlike dental implants, dentures are not a permanent solution for missing teeth. Over time, your dentures will wear down, plus the tissue in your mouth changes constantly which means that you’ll regularly need your dentures adjusted and re-lined.

Types of dentures in Watford

At Watford Dental, we offer 3 types of dentures:

Full or complete dentures

Full dentures contain a full set of false teeth on a plate which sits on top of your gums.

These are a good option if you have no teeth or are missing most of your teeth.

Partial dentures

Partial dentures contain one or more prosthetic teeth which are positioned on to the acrylic plate in the place where you have missing teeth.

Overdenture

An overdenture, also known as an implant supported denture, is where the dentures are held in place by a clip to dental implants which are embedded in your gums.

It means your dentures won’t slip and become uncomfortable.

Can I get dentures on the NHS?

This is a question we get asked a lot. If you have a dental need to replace missing teeth, then yes, you can get dentures on the NHS. This doesn’t mean that the dentures are free, but they are available at a reduced rate within NHS band 3 which can be seen in detail in our NHS fee guide.

Cosmetic dentures are not available on the NHS.

How do dentures work in Watford?

Consultation

We’ll talk through any missing teeth that you have and what you want to achieve. We may take photos and x-rays at this stage.

Creating the dentures

We’ll take dental impressions of your mouth and teeth, and this will be used to create your bespoke dentures. At some point, there will be a “try-in” stage whereby you can preview the appearance and make any changes or adjustments.

Fit and wear of dentures

Once your personalised dentures are ready, we will invite you back to Watford Dental Practice and show you how to wear, remove and clean your dentures.

Benefits of dentures in Watford

Patients from Moor Park, Watford, Bushey, Rickmansworth, Chandler’s Cross, and Hertfordshire are choosing dentures because:

  • Dentures are still the most cost-effective way to replace missing teeth
  • You will regain your confidence to smile again with dentures
  • Dentures will help to improve the way you chew and speak
  • Modern dentures mean there are less restrictions on what you can eat
  • Dentures replace the support that you had with your natural teeth. With missing teeth, your face begins to sag which can make you look older
  • Dentures are removable which allow for proper cleaning
  • Modern dentures use materials like porcelain or plastic for the false teeth which give a natural-looking smile

FAQ's for Dentures

How do I care for my dentures?

You must clean your dentures every day to avoid staining and to remove food and bacteria. You should use a denture brush, or a soft toothbrush and denture paste to gently brush over the entire surface of the dentures. You should not use toothpaste to do this as it is too abrasive. If your dentures become too heavily stained, you should take them back to your dentist in Watford who can help.

Can I sleep in dentures?

It is possible, but we recommend that you give your gums and jawbone a rest from the pressure of wearing the dentures during the day. If you intend to sleep in your dentures, you must find time to clean them as per the instructions above. Generally, dentures should be stored in water overnight after they have been given a thorough clean.

How long do dentures last and when should I get them relined?

On average, full dentures last between 5 and 10 years and partial dentures tend to last slightly longer at around 15 years. After this time, you will need a replacement set of dentures.

Over time, dentures may start to slip and become uncomfortable in your mouth. Your dentist in Watford can carry out a reline of your dentures which involves reshaping them on the underside so that they fit more comfortably in your mouth. Your dentures will need relining on average every 1 to 2 years.

I cannot recommend Dental Practice in Watford enough!
My family and I have been loyal patients for over 11 years, all thanks to the exceptional care provided by Dr. Hirani Roshni who has been nothing short of amazing. Her expertise, professionalism, and kindness always make every visit a pleasant experience. Whether it’s a routine check-up or a more complex procedure, Dr. Hirani Roshni handles everything with such precision and care that I always feel completely at ease.

The front desk staff deserves a special mention as well. The two receptionists are incredibly welcoming, efficient, and attentive. From scheduling appointments to answering questions, they go above and beyond to ensure a smooth experience from start to finish.

It’s rare to find a clinic where everyone works together so harmoniously to create such a positive atmosphere. Thank you, Miss Hirani and the entire team, for your continued dedication to your patients. You truly set the standard for excellent dental care!

My family and I have been using this dentist for a number of years now.

Dr Hirani is knowledgable friendly and polite. She often recommends the course of treatment that is best for the patient versus other dentists I have visited who seem to want to just take money for extra treatments!

The reception staff are also pleasant and helpful to me, my wife and my children. This is often against a backdrop of when the a dental practice is busy, or when dealing with some challenging clients.

Would recommend this as a they do NHS treatment and have good dental hygienists.

There is free parking on the surrounding streets after 10am and before 5pm.

My family and I have been seeing Dr Shah for about 15 years. When I first began seeing him my teeth was not in the greatest condition and the work he has done since to make them neater and comfortable via the NHS is phenomenal. He always takes time to listen to your issues and deals with problems efficiently. He's very gentle and has been excellent with my daughter who's a little nervous. Overall the best dentist I've ever had and highly recommended. The practise aa a whole is friendly, clean and the staff are always polite and helpful.
